When I read the passage above, I’ve never felt more like a Pharisee than today. The people whom Jesus constantly warns us not to be like; I feel it’s as if I’m practicing what they preach.

If one is honest about the situation, it’s more than dark and perplexing that intentionally killing unborn children is legal under the positive law, whereas selling their dead body parts for profit in the wake of their destruction is criminal. If making money selling children’s body parts is immoral and criminal, what about Planned Parenthood’s profits derived from killing them?
St. Martin reminds us that the purpose of our life is found in love of God above all else and love of neighbor for the sake of our love of God. Our life is to become a story of humility, compassion, prayer and holy activity in glorification of Christ.
In post-modern America, it has become a fashionable sign of the “enlightened” to oppose Church teaching by displaying a distaste for the dogmas and doctrines of the Church. Is the teaching of the Church burdensome and restrictive or, on the other hand, is it stimulating, elevating and freeing?
Jesus reminds us that those who give freely of themselves without expecting anything in return will receive their reward at the resurrection from the dead.
