Ever thought of waking up in the middle of the night like a monk to pray Matins, sleeping on the floor or putting a pebble in your shoe? Why would you do these things? Lent is upon us. Prepare yourself.

Diet, so I’ve heard countless times, is more important than exercise. You can be strong while being on the verge of dying of a heart attack. While we need mental prayer to tone ourselves and strengthen our resolve, we have to feed ourselves a balanced diet of the Word of God and put it into practice, so we absorb and retain all its nutrients.
Are you a wise person? What is wisdom? Understood through the light of faith, it’s not comprised of intellectual knowledge, shrewd social maneuvering skills or an acquired ability to attain worldly success and recognition. No, it’s about much more than those things.
Forgiveness is a gift of the Holy Spirit that each of us receive in Baptism, but also through God’s grace each time we go to confession and are truly repentant of our sins. God has given us a great gift, and is such a loving Father that He continually calls us back home, back on the right path.
In our trial on the Earth, prayer serves to educate man into the adoration due to God and the love of his fellow brothers. It has a transformative effect on man, uniting him to God and assisting him in living a life of charity in support of the common good.
