When the journey from here to eternity is too far to walk . . .

When the journey from here to eternity is too far to walk . . .

When your friends have abandoned you, when some have betrayed you, when others will not accept what you have to offer; never forget that you are loved: remember Jesus Christ is risen.

As the sun falls below the horizon, as the last light of day dies, when you feel you have nothing left to give; remember you can still love: remember Jesus Christ is risen.

In the morning stillness, when you long to fly away to the tranquil desert on the wings of a dove and be at peace with God, finally alone with the Beloved and eternally wrapped in his arms, but cannot find the way: remember Jesus Christ is risen.

After you have poured yourself out into emptiness, when there is no one to walk with you, when the dust of the road becomes oppressive: remember Jesus Christ is risen.

When you are tired, when your soul is cast down; remember all things are passing; God alone suffices: remember Jesus Christ is risen.

When you have come to the end, when your strength has ebbed away; remember the sacred blood poured out upon the cross for you; remember things are not over but rather have only just begun: remember Jesus Christ is risen.

Sometimes, when the journey from here to eternity is too far to walk, it’s time to lie down and rest among cool waters and gather strength by drinking of the Spirit whose gift of refreshment is the living water that flows from the heart of Jesus Christ.

When you can no longer find the strength to get up again, when you finally die to self . . .

“Take my hand,” says the Savior whose love is stronger than death, “Take my hand and walk with me.”

“For I have risen.”

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
