Thanksgiving in Christ

Give Thanks to God for his Son, Jesus Christ

As I celebrate Thanksgiving, I notice there’s something missing. My heart longs for a different kind of celebration in a different kind of place. And until I am there, there will always be something missing.

October 17, 2024 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

St. Ignatius of Antioch

The life and teaching of St. Ignatius clearly point to the sublime and lofty goal of human nature: eternal communion with God. Man is made for something—Someone—infinitely greater and higher than creatures or created things.

Purity

How important is cultivating purity of heart for experiencing the presence of God? It is an endeavor of a crucial nature that culminates in an embrace of Divine Love beyond expression. “The day on which God has unrestricted power over our hearts we shall also have unrestricted power over his”—St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross

April 15, 2024 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Resurrection of Christ

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
