Walking with Mary in Sorrow and Joy

October 18, 2019 by Sr. Christina M. Neumann Leave a Comment

Mary holds the infant Jesus

Walking with Mary in her joy and sorrow is part of the Christian life. Mary’s response to the many difficulties she faced in raising her son, Jesus Christ, shows us the way forward. She goes before us, reminding us that there is always—always—cause for joy.

A Poetic Reflection On The Virgin Mary

May 15, 2019 by Virginia Aguirre 1 Comment

Mary holds the infant Jesus

Having converted to Catholicism in my late teens, I had little experience or knowledge of The Virgin Mary, our Blessed Mother. I honored her mostly at Christmas time, knowing that she was called “Blessed” and that she carried our Savior in her womb.

The Accusation that Catholics Worship Mary Is Built on Misunderstanding and Exaggeration

Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart

As a teen and young man, I remember being hesitant—even fearful—of mentioning to my friends that I was a Catholic. I knew they held a lot of misunderstanding about the Church and what the Church believes about Mary.

Corruption in the Catholic Church: Let Your Heart Not Be Troubled

September 8, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 2 Comments

Nativity, Birth of Christ, Incarnation, birth of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

Given what’s going on in the Church with the clergy sexual abuse scandal, Cardinal McCarrick, and the mounting evidence of its calculated and ongoing coverup by top Vatican officials, including Pope Francis, it’s easy to be more than simply disappointed.

Mary: Our Queen Mother

Mary is crowned queen of heaven

Today is the Feast of St. James the Greater. Remember, he was the brother of John. Jesus referred to the brothers as Boanerges (Sons of Thunder). During this morning’s homily, the priest opined that, perhaps, they had fiery temperaments. Could be. I know a few people like that.

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
