Does God Exist?

Day Will Soon Pass Into Night

July 17, 2014 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

graveyard, cemetary

Although the bright light of day gives a false impression that night is far off, it is this moment drawing near. Soon, light will give way to shadow, color wash into grey, and the warmth of the sun will cease as it falls below the horizon and the earth is cast in darkness.

A Reflection On Life’s Emptiness: Friend or Foe?

September 7, 2012 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

I believe in order to understand

Our experience of life’s emptiness is a universal human experience; it is not without cause or purpose, for through it God directs our attention back upon Himself, that we may have life, and have it abundantly (Jn 10:10).

Pope Benedict XVI: Faith Transforms The Abyss of Suffering Into a Source of Hope

September 14, 2011 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Pope Benedict XVI

“This cry of anguish is transformed and transfigured in the mystery of the Resurrection. With these words, Jesus gives us the weight of his unspeakable suffering, beyond which the certainty of glory opens. Faith transforms death into a gift of life, and the abyss of pain into a source of hope” — Pope Benedict XVI

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
