Palm Sunday: Why Did Jesus Have To Die On A Roman Cross?

March 28, 2021 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

The Crowning of Thorns

Was it absolutely necessary for Jesus to be brutally crucified on a Roman cross in order to redeem humankind? Could God have chosen some other way? Perhaps. But I cannot think of a better way.

What’s Your Answer To The Question: Have You Been Saved?

May 25, 2020 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 2 Comments

Icon of Jesus Christ

Are you saved? It’s a question that often confuses Catholics. The most common answer I hear is: “Well, I’m a good person, so I hope to get to heaven.” Ah … nope. Wrong answer.

St. Peter and Redeeming Qualities

February 22, 2020 by Lauren Heaton 1 Comment

Cross and St. Peter's redeeming qualities

I think I have been channeling my inner St. Peter recently. St. Peter was a very determined, almost stubborn fellow, who was quick to jump to extremes with Jesus. Most notably, St. Peter liked to speak by using a lot of “never”s.

Through Mary Salvation is Brought to the World

December 31, 2019 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 1 Comment

Mother of God

All history, past, present and future, culminates in Jesus Christ, the Son of God who became man and assumed human nature in order to restore humanity, that we might gain what was lost. This sublime and priceless gift of God became a reality through Mary’s total “yes” to the salvific will of the Father.

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
