The Christian Life and Keeping The Door Firmly Closed on Evil Spirits

October 10, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 1 Comment

The Devil's Tactics

There are many paths or portals through which evil spirits are enabled to gain personal access to our lives in extraordinary ways. These doorways provide evil spirits with a kind of “permission” or “right” to oppress, obsess and even possess people. Christians would do well to carefully avoid them.

Dealing with the devil and fallen angels

Immediately following the blessing, a woman across the church began, it seemed, to sob. Her cry, however, quickly turned into disturbingly loud shouts, shrieks, and pain-filled screams.

Sin: The Sly Destroyer of Souls

September 30, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Hell and fire

The readings of today’s liturgy emphasize one simple truth of our Catholic faith: sin damages us and others. It has serious long-term consequences—even those of an unending, eternal duration. Sin can lead to that terrifying reality we call hell.

The Accusation that Catholics Worship Mary Is Built on Misunderstanding and Exaggeration

September 25, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart

As a teen and young man, I remember being hesitant—even fearful—of mentioning to my friends that I was a Catholic. I knew they held a lot of misunderstanding about the Church and what the Church believes about Mary.

Corruption in the Church and Receiving the Sacraments from Sinful Priests

September 15, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 2 Comments

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
