Today is the Feast of St. James the Greater. Remember, he was the brother of John. Jesus referred to the brothers as Boanerges (Sons of Thunder). During this morning’s homily, the priest opined that, perhaps, they had fiery temperaments. Could be. I know a few people like that.
Saints
St. Justin Martyr
The Roman prefect Rusticus, his hate-filled eyes fixed intently on St. Justin, said: “Do you have an idea that you will go up to heaven to receive some suitable rewards?” Justin responded: “It is not an idea that I have; it is something I know well and hold to be most certain.”
St. Joseph, Spouse of the Virgin Mary and Model of The Virtue of Faith
St. Joseph, like Mary, is a model and guide for all Christians, especially as a model of faith. St. Joseph teaches us the meaning of faith in God and how to actively and consistently live out the virtue of faith in our lives.
The Immaculate Heart of Mary: Gateway to Holiness, Purity and Love
Through devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we are attracted to Mary’s immense love for her Son. This leads us to recognize that her Immaculate Heart is inseparably bound up with the Sacred Heart of Jesus as two hearts of love joined for eternity.
Saint Martin of Tours and the Goal of Human Life
St. Martin reminds us that the purpose of our life is found in love of God above all else and love of neighbor for the sake of our love of God. Our life is to become a story of humility, compassion, prayer and holy activity in glorification of Christ.
