With The Election of Jared Polis, Voters in Colorado Give The Nod To Two Intrinsic Evils

November 20, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 4 Comments

Jared Polic and male partner Marlon Reis

In November Colorado voters made a frequently repeated error in moral discernment: they intentionally placed a man who openly supports intrinsic evils into a position of power and influence over others.

The Elixir of Egoism And Its Antidote

Broken Glass

Clearly, something is seriously and dangerously wrong in our nation. Things are topsy-turvy. “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter” (Isaiah 5:20).

Morality and Catholic Voting in America

The Compendium Of The Social Doctrine Of The Church explains that “Jesus’ followers are called to live like him and, after his Passover of death and resurrection, to live also in him and by him, thanks to the superabundant gift of the Holy Spirit, the Consoler, who internalizes Christ’s own style of life in human hearts” (29).

Memorial Day 2018: The Meaning of True and Authentic Freedom

May 29, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Christ and the rich young man

A disordered view of freedom has arisen in America since the 1940’s and 50’s promoting a freedom without limits. This new, depraved view of freedom demands a system of “rights” that, ultimately, violate the dignity of the human person and labor to dismantle society. It’s become man for man, not man for the love of God.

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
