Living Now in the Hope of Eternity and The Resurrection: Are You Ready?

April 15, 2024 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Resurrection of Christ

We profess in the Nicene Creed of the Church each Sunday: “I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.” “But are we,” wrote then Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, “really expecting this resurrection? And eternal life?”

The Resurrection of Christ

Today, I spoke to Dave about upcoming Holy Week, Easter, and the resurrection of Christ. I asked him if he believed in the resurrection. It’s a dogma of the faith. It gives us great hope for the future. Unfortunately, he shook his head “no.”

When Death Arrives, Will You Say Joyfully: O Death, Where is Thy Sting?

May 27, 2020 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
