Resurrection

Like Lazarus, We Wait in Faith and Hope, Entombed in Darkness

March 27, 2020 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

the resurrection

We wait in faith and hope, analogously entombed in darkness, following in the way of Lazarus. Yet Christ is coming. The resurrection is in your future.

The Experience of the Resurrected Christ: A Divine Dream Worth Dying For

October 21, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 1 Comment

the resurrection

The dream of God is a dream of unending, divine love. His only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, sacrificed his human life for this Dream: the redemption of humankind and the gift of eternal life and perfect happiness. Heaven is the divine dream that is not a fantasy but reality! Its gates are open through the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Power of the Resurrection in Our Lives

April 4, 2018 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 1 Comment

Cross and Resurrection

Catholics do not believe in the Resurrection merely because we have been told it is so; we believe in it because the living community of the Church has witnessed it. We are a people who have witnessed the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Resurrection is, then, a historical event in the life of the People of God.

Icon of Jesus Christ

“In reality it is only in the mystery of the Word made flesh that the mystery of man truly becomes clear” (Gaudium et Spes 22 § 1). Jesus is the way and the truth and the life, who himself illuminates our lives.

I Am The Resurrection and The Life

April 3, 2017 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Resurrection of Christ

Our gospel for the Fifth Sunday of Lent is taken from John 11:1-45. It’s a very beautiful gospel, rich in meaning and filled with a number of wonderful elements. Its main thrust is the raising of Lazarus from the dead. This podcast focuses on the words of Jesus Christ given to Martha, Lazarus’s sister, in the context of the general resurrection: “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” What will take place at the general resurrection of the dead? What will the glorified body the followers of Christ receive be like?

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
