The Assumption of Mary

August 15, 2021 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Assumption of the Virgin Mary

The Assumption of Mary is important for Christians because it is true; it is a matter of divine revelation and the history of God’s people. As such, it is the belief of the Church. Further, it is important because the Church, as well as all other Christians who die in the friendship of God, is destined to follow Mary’s path of assumption into the heavenly realm.

Through Mary Salvation is Brought to the World

December 31, 2019 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 1 Comment

Mother of God

All history, past, present and future, culminates in Jesus Christ, the Son of God who became man and assumed human nature in order to restore humanity, that we might gain what was lost. This sublime and priceless gift of God became a reality through Mary’s total “yes” to the salvific will of the Father.

Mary, Mother of God

Completely confident that her Son will do what she suggests, knowing he would never deny his mother any good thing, Mary turns to the servers and says: “Do whatever he tells you.”

December 25, 2015 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Icon of the Virgin Mary, Mother of god

It is Christmas eve. On this night we gaze with anticipation toward Christmas, that day when, about two thousand years ago, our Savior was born of a sweet, humble and sinless Jewish woman: the Virgin Mary, most holy Mother of God.

May 17, 2013 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Virgin Mother

United to her Son, Mary provides the example of motherhood par excellence. The Father chose Mary, with her human, maternal and feminine nature, to bring salvation to the world in his Son. As we reflect on this one fact, we discover that nothing greater can be said of motherhood.

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
