Pray, Hope, and Don’t Worry: Jesus Has Your Back

February 18, 2020 by Donna Caito Leave a Comment

woman walking alone, abandonment, marginalized

Come late April I will be out of a job. I recall how Jesus called the future apostles by the seashore. And I keep thinking to myself, “If three fishermen can leave everything and follow Jesus, surely I can change jobs without having panic attacks. Jesus took care of them. Why shouldn’t I believe he will take care of me?”

Anti-Catholic Bias Is Not Dead

January 8, 2020 by Donna Caito Leave a Comment

catholic mass

Anti-Catholic bias is far from dead. Wrong assumptions. Errors. Misunderstandings. Even fear-based propaganda about the Church, what Catholics believe, and how we worship is not uncommon. What’s to be done? Plenty.

Are We Good Managers of the Faith?

January 6, 2020 by Donna Caito Leave a Comment

theological virtue of faith

Are Catholics “good managers” of the faith? The number of Catholics leaving the Church is staggering. Less than 40% of Catholics say they attended weekly Mass. What’s more, the number of people who identify as “nonreligious” is growing about 30% per year.

What It’s Like to Be a Catholic Single Parent

understanding motherhood with its joys and sorrows

It’s been hard work to show my own daughters actions have consequences. One of the consequences of my actions is parenting by myself. Single parenting is hard, exhausting, and challenging.

I Honestly Didn’t Want to Be Catholic (And Sometimes Still Don’t)

Joy In Truth

Catholicism, I learned and am still learning, is hard. When someone is a practicing Catholic who believes in the Faith, they must get real with themselves. And not only is it hard work, it’s messy. You must be willing to dig deep within your soul.

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
