Spiritual But Not Religious?

January 7, 2016 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Woman's eye

Everyone searches. Not everyone knows why; not everyone understands what to look for; not everyone recognizes who they seek. Some are on a spiritual quest for the divine and they know it; others do not. Some fail to discern who alone is capable of satiating their thirst and thus wrongly seek to quench it with creatures, poisons and pain. Still others are indifferent to the search itself; so long as they feel satisfied along the way, they remain blindly convinced of progress. Nevertheless, everyone searches.

8 Easy Ways to Grow Closer to God this Christmas

December 31, 2015 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

The creation of Adam

One mistake Christians sometimes make is they pray an Our Father or a Hail Mary, but do not really open their heart and communicate with God. In the first place, prayer is primarily a communication between you and God. Don’t leave yourself and your heart out of it!

Christmas and The Theological Virtue of Faith

December 29, 2015 by Deacon Frederick Bartels 1 Comment

The theological virtue of faith is God's gift to man

Contemplating the true meaning of Christmas is only possible through God’s freely bestowed gift of faith. This gift, one to be nourished, guarded and cherished above even temporal life itself, gives to the soul new light, aspirations, and abilities, each ordered toward the attainment of the treasure of infinite value: the beatific vision and everlasting communion with God.

How Long is the Christmas Season?

December 26, 2015 by Deacon Frederick Bartels Leave a Comment

Christmas season and its length

Pope St. John Paul II:

Jesus Christ meets the man of every age, including our own, with the same words: “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” These words contain both a fundamental requirement and a warning: the requirement of an honest relationship with regard to truth as a condition for authentic freedom, and the warning to avoid every kind of illusory freedom, every superficial unilateral freedom, every freedom that fails to enter into the whole truth about man and the world.  (Redemptor Hominis No. 12)
